Photography is not only for professionals. Every picture you take on your phone is a reason to look at the world a little more closely. Creative hobbies like this can give you a small but valuable pause in a busy day.
Creativity and wellbeing
A World Health Organization (WHO) Europe report, drawing on more than 3,000 studies, found that engaging with the arts can play a major role in preventing ill health and promoting health. Photography sits within that broad field, but the report covers the arts in general, so we are not promising specific results for photography alone.
The UK's National Health Service (NHS) adds that learning new skills and trying new hobbies, such as painting, can boost self-confidence and give a sense of purpose. Photography can be learned in the same way.
Why does it calm the mind?
When you look for a good frame, you notice everyday things: light, colour, shadow. That is close to the NHS suggestion of paying more attention to the present moment, which it says can help you enjoy life more.
